February is on FIRE

OK Sleepy Heads, Ground Hog Day is coming. Which means maybe we can start looking to break the back of Winter. In the meantime, hot off the Press, your Update Buddy has been scouring the boards, sites, and other sources to bring you the February Update. Oh and yeah, this is a little January residue here as well. The phun begins TONIGHT and goes all the way to the end of the February.

The Update wanted to thank all that came up and said Hey Now at the Greyboys Allstars show. Nice to see friends there. We have a special friend Steve Z aka the Zman who regularly tapes shows and puts them up on DigitalPanic.org. This show is up there along with Fareed Haque from Friday at the Firefly. Hey Zman, please sign on to my blog and tells us how to get the show with having to register at Digital Panic. The site requires a person to refer you.

Anyway, kidz on to the Shows.

1/25-26

Detroit Music Update, January 2, 2008

back in Force Kids. Holidaze are over and we have to do something to stay sane here in SouthEast Michigan. Well, there is Plenty on the Plate

This Weekend the Antifreeze Blues Festival starts Friday at the Magic Band. Way too many bands to mention. Go to the Magic Bag's Website, at the end of the update, for the Details.

January 11th Necro Saint Andrews
Covert Operations Purple Moon Flint
January 13th The Jam Society w/ Ari Teitel. The Pike Room
Pontiac (part of the Crofoot). I am keeping my
eye on the 13 year old guitar progeny, Ari. The
resume if whom he has played with in his young
life is impressive.

January 15th The Carolina Chocolate Drops The Ark. This
band caught my attention because they are
playing a few gigs in the area. I went to their site
and found they are an authentic North Carolina
string band. They have website
www.carolinaschocolatedrops.com and a
cool myspace page with video.

January 16th Wynton Marsalis Hill Auditorium

January 17th Covert Operations 5th Avenue Royal Oak
The Carolina Chocolate Drops The Whiting
Flint

January 18th Macpodz Blind Pig

G Love and the Special Sauce at the Fillmore
(the State Theatre in Detroit to some of us)

The Carolina Chocolate Drops (again) Whiting
in Flint
Covert Operations The Purple Moon Flint

January 19th The Paper Street Saints Crofoot
Back forty TC's Ypsilanti
Covert Operations Outriggers Bar White Lake

January 20th Greyboy Allstars with Karl Denson and Robert
Walther Magic Bag

January 23rd Mars Volta St Andrews.

January 25-26 The Ann Arbor Folk Festival Friday looks like
night I'd see (I'll be on tour with moe though).
There are many classic acts returning. KUDOS
to the Update's very own (my Ferndale homey)
Jill Jack (luv ya honey) playing on Saturday.

January 25th Covert Operations at the Purple Moon-Flint

Three Dog Night (yep they are still alive)
Andiamo's Showcase in Warren. Plays there
the 26th as well.

January 27th LENNY KRAVITZ The Fillmore

February 1st North Mississippi Allstars St Andrews

There is so much more coming down the line, but for now, this is enough

Ok I'm Here

My Buddy Derek MADE me get a Blog. Thanks Derek!!!! The email list WILL continue. But this needs to be explored as well.. . .

I have been in the Detroit area for almost 17 years. I started seeing the Grateful Dead in 1980 and saw them many times a year up to the end and I actually saw the last two shows. I also had a long relationship with Phish, starting in 1992 and say them through their last show as well. Same with String Cheese Incident, starting in 1998 and ending with their last show in August 2007.

I have traveled extensively in 28 states to see live music. I have seen well over 1000 shows in 44 years. I am from Baltimore originally and Cooley Law School brought me to Michigan. I am a criminal defense attorney and have gone very far in my career.

I have a natural interest in jambands. My interests do not stay there exclusively. My spiritual belief is that we find our higher selves (no not drug high-I have been drug and alcohol free for 15 years) in music. Many of my friends are the people that put shows on in Michigan and the national level. Some of my friends are in the bands we love to see. I feel it is important to get the word on these shows.

Derek posted my update for the month of January. My goal is to highlight music that is going on in Southeast Michigan. Derek has described the musical interest very well in the blog description.

I try to put out update, at least, once a month. Sometimes, it will go out more.

I hope all enjoy learning what is going in our area. As the seasons warm up, I will post festivals that go on in Michigan and the rest of the Nation.

Happy New Year
